Changing your childcare registration 

How do I add or remove people on my childcare registration?

Childcare providers must tell Ofsted about any changes to the people who are on their registration.

I’m a childminder and need to tell you about a new adult in my setting. How do I do this?

I'm a childminder who works from a home and I’m changing the address I work from. What do I need to tell you?

If you are changing the address you work from, for example because you are moving house, email enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk from the email address you have registered with Ofsted. Put 'Change of address' in the email subject line. Tell us your unique reference number, your new address and the date you will start providing childcare from this address. 

We will send you a new certificate once we have updated our records. You can work from your new address as soon as you are ready. You do not need to wait for your new certificate. 

You must tell us about changes to any of the following: 

  • phone number 
  • email address 
  • your home address if this is different to where you provide childcare 
  • the type of childcare you provide 
  • a full list of people living or working at the new address and any people who need to be removed from your registration

I'm a childminder. How do I add non-domestic premises to my registration?

How do I move premises or add a new premises to my childcare service?

If you're a nursery or other childcare provider and you're going to move to a new premises or add an additional premises, you must apply for approval of your new premises

How do I tell you about changes to my contact details?

If you need to update the details we hold for your childcare service, for example your phone number or email address, email enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk. You must contact us from the email you have registered with Ofsted. Include your unique reference number, your full name, and the name and address of your service. 

How do I resign my childcare provider registration?

If you want to resign your Ofsted registration, email enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk from the email address you have registered with Ofsted. Put 'Resignation' in the email subject line. 

For settings registered under an organisation, this email needs to be sent by the named nominated individual, using the email address they have registered with Ofsted. 

You should tell us that you want to resign and provide the following details: 

  • your full name 
  • the unique reference number of the setting you want to resign  
  • the name and address of your childcare service
  • what date you want to resign your registration from 

If we have already taken steps to cancel your registration, you may not be able to resign. 

Any fees already paid will not be refunded.

Changing your children's social care registration 

How do I tell you about changes to staff in a children's social care service?

You need to tell Ofsted about changes to certain people or premises. For example, you must tell us if you have added new premises or if a director has changed. 

You must tell us about: 

  • changes to anyone who is part of the registered provider – for organisations, this includes the responsible individual (or nominated individual for supported accommodation), and anyone with governance responsibilities, such as a director, company secretary, treasurer or trustee 
  • changes to the manager of a voluntary adoption agency, local authority adoption service or local authority fostering service 
  • the absence of a registered manager for 28 days or more, unless you run a residential scheme for disabled children

How do I tell you about changes to my contact details?

If you need to update the details we hold for your social care service, for example your phone number or email address, email enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk. You must email us from the email you have registered with Ofsted. Include your unique reference number, full name, and the name and address of your service. 

How do I move premises or add a new premises to a children’s social care service?

Even if you are already registered, if you are moving to a new premises you will need to apply to register your children’s social care service again.

You will need: 

  • your unique reference number 
  • details of any changes to your premises or new premises, including written proof of planning permission or confirmation from your local authority that this is not necessary 
  • an updated statement of purpose, if necessary 
How do I cancel a children's social care registration?

If you want to cancel the registration for a provider or your own registration as an individual manager, download and complete the social care: apply to cancel registration as a provider or manager form and email it to enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk.
